Summary

Not the best written but a moving topic。

It’s the perfect length- and the perfect story。 It held my interest all the way through。If you like historical fiction then you should read。

After reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz, I knew I had to find out more about Cilka。 I'm so glad I did。 The inner strength of that child, a mere teenager during her time at Auschwitz, is astounding。 But that's not the end of her story, not the end of the pain, but also not the end of her victory over the suffering she was forced to endure。 I am so grateful to Heather Morris for uncovering the stories of Lale, Gita, and Cilka, and for bringing them to the world。 After reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz, I knew I had to find out more about Cilka。 I'm so glad I did。 The inner strength of that child, a mere teenager during her time at Auschwitz, is astounding。 But that's not the end of her story, not the end of the pain, but also not the end of her victory over the suffering she was forced to endure。 I am so grateful to Heather Morris for uncovering the stories of Lale, Gita, and Cilka, and for bringing them to the world。 。。。more

A beautifully told but horrifying story made all the more poignant by knowing it’s based on a real person。 There is an overwhelming theme of hope and strength running through it though。

Tasha Becker

This is a great story that follows The Tattooist of Auschwitz。 Cilka’s story is a beautiful story of perseverance and holding on to hope。

Deanna Martin

- incredible story of survival against all odds- focuses more on her story after auschwitz, in the Soviet work camps- liked tattooist of auschwitz more, but this was also really good

Fantasylora

After I read The Tattooist of Auschwitz I had to read this book, too。

Incredible to learn what happened to Cilka when she was charged with Prostituting with the enemy and how she endured more rape in the prison while there。 She was an amazing woman how she endured everything and handled having most of her life taken away from her as well as family and friends

Such a beautifully written book! I stayed up late to finish it because I couldn't put it down。 It showed how terrible the time was but the women tried to find hope in the darkness。 Loved it。 Such a beautifully written book! Considering this was a historical fiction novel, there was a lot of missing pieces that would’ve made the story feel more whole。 It was repetitive at times and some parts dragged on more than was needed。

4 1/2 stars。 Wish we had this rating! I am very, very stingy on five star ratings。 This was a wonderful book as a follow-up to the tattooist of Auschwitz 。 I am so privileged to have read Cilka’s story。

Heather Morris really makes you feel like your right there with Cilka, it was a great read, you could feel how strong she was to survive at whatever cost。 I cannot wait to read the rest of her books。

Impossible to read without your heart breaking, impossible to put down。 Maybe one book a year has me weeping out loud- this had me undone。 Thank you for telling this story!

Nicole Carey

A beautiful sequel to the Tattooist of Auschwitz。 Human courage and bravery。 A story of survival。

Carol Hajian

A heart wrenching story where characters wonder if they dare to hope, dream or look to the future but continue to look for and cling to any tiny glimmer of joy in the cold hard oppressive life they live。

Rachel

Loved the telling of Cilka's story。 Could've done without the f bomb which is used a lot。 Loved the telling of Cilka's story。 Could've done without the f bomb which is used a lot。 。。。more

i first started reading historical fiction/memoirs after i finished “night”。 i have read a lot of books about the holocaust。 i read the tattoist of auschwitz and it was truly a remarkable read。 cilka’s journey was no different。 heather morris is just wow。 i encourage everyone to read this book and so many others about this time period。 we owe it to the survivors and the dead to remember them。 this book like all the others changed me。 wow。 please read。

Natalie

HeartfeltA heartfelt novelised memoir of a wonderful woman stuck between horror after horror。 I couldnt put the book down at all。

I picked it up because I loved The Tattooist of Auschwitz。 Unfortunately this book didn’t live up to the first one。 It dragged too much and at the end, everything happened too fast - almost leaving you hanging as you connected with the characters。 It was a great and powerful story, but the ending was too fast。

Nina Post

Wow。just wow。A remarkable true story that captures the life during imprisonment at Auschwitz and Siberia。 Her story and the stories of Jews Taken as prisoners during World War 2 needs to be mandatory read for our youth。 The story is heartbreaking and believable。。 difficult but necessary。a reminder of good and evil in humanity。

Natalie Golab

I loved this book! Gave me a lot of knowledge about the Russian gulags and how awful they were for Auschwitz survivors!

Sue Doore

The first 80 pages are difficult to get past the emotions & detailed descriptions of the things happening around & to Cilka。 But it became difficult to put the book down after that, no matter the difficulties Cilka faced。 You get attached to each character & want to finish to know what happened!!

What an amazing book! I think this and The Tattooist of Auschwitz are two of my favorite books。 Such an emotional rollercoaster。 Such bravery and courage in such hellish circumstances。 Both books show how powerful love can be。
